Hard to say if these MLB-themed gaming PCs will be “a line drive to right” with gamers out there, but Commodore has certainly “rounded the bases” in order to deliver some pretty fanciful machines. The officially licensed desktops boast an exclusive C-kin paint job only possessed by the “true five-tool” PC manufacturing companies, though we have heard that the Core i7 within was “indirectly linked to HGH.” At any rate, clean-up hitters can “round third and head for home” (or the order page, as it were) right now, but don’t expect to underpay one of these “all-stars” and get away with it. Full release is just past the break, and we don’t want to see any lollygagging on your way down.

We caught a glimpse of the
HP xw9400 quite a while back when it was first announced, but it’s now available on HP’s site and we’ve got the full details on the mammoth’s innards. There are quite a few customizable options, including AMD’s Dual-Core
Shanghai Opteron CPUs (from 2.0GHz to 2.5GHz), up to 32GB MHz DDR SDRAM, NIVIDIA nForce Professional 3600 or 3050 chipsets, and available NVIDIA Quadro FX cards with up to 1GB of memory. There are also five internal and two external drive bays and eight USB 2.0 ports. The behemoth starts at $2,399 and runs as high as $6,299. Hit the read link for the widest array of specifications you can possibly ever imagine.

Dell made a lot of noise about its otherwise-ordinary Art House laptops today, but we didn’t hear a peep about the XPS 430 desktops that slid online as well. The update to the XPS 420 now starts with a 6GB rack of DDR3 RAM and an updated selection of Intel Core 2 Quad processors running on a 1,333MHz bus with 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics — the base $1,307 model has a 2.33GHz Q8200 while the higher-powered $1,767 configuration has a 2.5GHz Q9300 and comes bundled with a 22-inch SP2208WFP LCD. True to Dell form, you can go crazy on the BTO tip and order the 430 jacked with a 3.0GHz QX9650 Core 2 Extreme, 8GB of RAM, a 2TB RAID, and Blu-ray burner for $3,267, but we’ve got a feeling those less-insane stock configurations might sell just a hair better when orders start shipping in November.

It’s not the first, and certainly won’t be the last, now Fujitsu Siemens Computers becomes the latest victim of corporate restructuring under the pressure of a global economic turn down. Fujitsu announced that it’s acquiring beleaguered Siemens AG’s 50 percent share of the joint venture for €450 million (about $580 million). The partnership established back in 1999 should be dissolved by April, assuming government approval naturally. Hey US, you’re not the only country with a stake in today’s presidential election — oh you betcha.

Right on schedule, it looks like Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex is now available. Linux fans should look forward to performance gains and a new Connection Manager with 3G support, as well as the ability to install from USB drives and built-in BBC content availability. Torrents should be popping now — and if you haven’t hit up the ‘bu yet, what’re you waiting for?

We thought we’d heard the last of this whole AT&T / Starbucks WiFi deal yesterday, but alas, we were terrifically mistaken. AT&T has come forth today with two fluffy press releases that flesh out the details, and amazingly, there are some inclusions that we weren’t made aware of yesterday. For starters, all iPhone / iPhone 3G customers will now have free (and seemingly limitless) access to AT&T WiFi hotspots across the US — we’re talking Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, the whole lot. Additionally, the carrier has welcomed select BlackBerry users — that’s the Bold for now, the Pearl 8120 / 8820 “later this year” — into the same deal, though the official verbiage mentions that an “unlimited data plan” is required. If you didn’t make the cut this time, fret not — AT&T has plans to invite “more mobile devices” into the fold here shortly.

Man, Nokia sure is proud of its unlocked N96, huh? As with the HTC Touch Diamond in CompUSA and the BlackBerry Bold at Best Buy Mobile, the flagship N-series device won’t run you cheap off-contract. The Boy Genius shows off a flyer advertising the 16GB, 5MP powerhouse for “just” $799.99 (as expected), but judging by the standard $899.99 price on the outfit’s website, we’re thinking the lower sticker may be for a limited time only. The question isn’t how bad do you want it — it’s do you really want it more than 1.825 WiMAX-enabled N810s?

Hope you’re eager to break into that Halloween candy early, because you’ve got some (re)celebrating to do. If you’ll recall, we first heard that laptops accounted for over half of US retail computer sales back in 2003, and in June of 2005, we found that it was somehow worth getting jazzed over once more when it happened again. Here we are in the latter half of 2008 shaking our heads in disappointment, as IDC has amazingly discovered that notebook shipments into the US market have exceeded the 50% threshold for the first time evar. Go ahead and stock up on rave supplies early — we get this weird feeling that we’ll be doing this same song and dance in 2010 or so.

It looks like Splashtop — the instant-on, quickboot Linux OS that’s been cropping up on a smattering of motherboards and PCs lately — is headed onto a smaller platform. The company announced today that it’s going to be loading up Lenovo’s IdeaPad S10e netbook with a healthy dose of the software — dubbed “Quick Start” — allowing you to get to that all-important YouTube video faster than previously thought possible. This marks the first time Splashtop is making its way to a netbook, and we expect it will be shipping on all new models, though the company hasn’t been explicit about that. We’ll keep our fingers crossed, and let you know if we hear otherwise.
