Windows System Control Center is a free, no-install app that provides a convenient front-end for running every app released by those groups. Divided into intelligent categories, the app does require that you keep each group of utilities in the same directory, but the majority of them are portable, and that makes this app a pretty handy tool for system administrators’ USB sticks. System Control Center requires that you download the apps in question to use them, of course, but it also links to a few standard high-level Windows tools for all-in-one fix-it work. + Convert Videos with Free, Powerful Automen [Featured Windows Download] By admin 30 October 2008 at 8:30 pm and have No Comments

I say “relatively” compared to Mencoder, the command-line utility it provides a user interface for. You will have to edit the program’s INI configuration file in Notepad to get it working, so if drag-and-drop is more your speed it might not be right for you. You can choose from a variety of input and output formats (including XVID, FLV, WMV, and MP4), specify the output dimensions and even target file size, batch-process multiple videos and the software will take full advantage of multi-core processors to speed up encoding. For alternative tools, check out our a href=”http://lifehacker.com/software/lifehacker-top-10/top-10-free-video-rippers-encoders-and-converters-316478.php”top 10 free video rippers, encoders, and converters/a. + Gmail Drive Config Mounts Multiple Gmail Accounts as Disks [Featured Windows Download] By admin 28 October 2008 at 5:33 pm and have No Comments
pimg src=”http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2008/10/multiple_gmail_drives_with_gmail_drive_config.jpg” height=”161″ width=”300″ align=”left” hspace=”4″ vspace=”2″ align=”left”Windows only: Mount more than one Gmail account as a remote disk drive with free utility a href=”http://convivea.com/product.php?id=4″Gmail Drive Config/a. Yes, it’s all very experimental, I did encounter some annoyances, and Google could probably make it all go poof with a few keystrokes from some command line prompt in Mountain View. Rest assured, you’ll always be able to access any files added via mounted drives through Gmail proper. But I got two accounts set up and working as network storage in just a few minutes. Here’s how./p pa href=”http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm”Install Gmail Drive/a, if you haven’t already. Check out our a href=”http://lifehacker.com/software/hack-attack/advanced-file-and-attachment-management-with-gmail-274567.php”Advanced file and attachment management with Gmail/a post for details. Your Gmail account will show up as a mounted drive under My Computer in Windows Explorer, categorized as “Other” below any Network Drives.br img src=”http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2008/10/initial_account_setup_for_network_drive.jpg” class=”center” width=”394″ height=”293″ style=”display:block;float:none;” /br Set up another Gmail account, if you haven’t already. I signed out of my main Gmail account, and clicked Sign up for Gmail under the login box. I simply used my current username plus “.files” to create a Gmail account specifically for file storage. Be sure to set an alternate email address so you get a copy of your login details just in case.br img src=”http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2008/10/run_gmail_drive.jpg” width=”290″ height=”176″ class=”center” align=”center”br Now a href=”http://convivea.com/product.php?id=4″download Gmail Drive Config from Convivea/a. It’s a simple executable, so just click “Run” from the browser or double-click the gmail_drive file in your downloads folder.br img src=”http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2008/10/add_drive_dialog_gmail_drive_config.jpg” width=”327″ height=”260″ class=”center” align=”center”br It should show the initial drive you set up. Simply click Add Drive to add another by entering a new name for the drive and a different Gmail address.br img src=”http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2008/10/multiple_gmail_accounts_as_network_drives.jpg” class=”center” width=”361″ height=”187″ style=”display:block;float:none;” /br The new drive will also appear under My Computer in Windows Explorer. Double-click it to enter the password. Rinse and repeat to add up 999 Gmail accounts.br img src=”http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2008/10/alternate_account_login.jpg” class=”center” width=”407″ height=”286″ style=”display:block;float:none;” /br Note: I tried to add a Gmail account for a Google Apps for Your Domain address with no luck. Not only did it not work, but even after much fiddling, I couldn’t properly Edit or Remove the entry from the list of accounts in Gmail Drive Config. Also, when trying to remove an account, I was prompted with a dialog and system beep to close all instances of Explorer. Not a dealbreaker, just a little annoying. But at the current price, who’s complaining? While it isn’t as flashy as some of the commercial software on the market, it is robust and feature-packed for being small and portable. Money Manager Ex has the basics covered like managing multiple checking, savings, credit card, and loan accounts. There is support for tracking stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. You can generate a variety of reports to see how your expenses stack up against your income, the gain versus loss in your investments, and upcoming bills and expenses. Money Manager Ex includes a budget manager which, while sorely lacking the ability to make new entries in the budget, has dozens of existing entries which should cover most situations. For other money management applications, check out the results of the a href=”http://lifehacker.com/396507/five-best-personal-finance-tools”Best Personal Finance Tools Hive Five/a. pimg src=”http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2008/10/crossover2.jpg” align=”left” hspace=”4″ vspace=”2″ width=”494″ height=”200″ style=”display:block;float:none;” /br Mac OS X and Linux only: CrossOver, a commercially-modified version of the free a href=”http://winehq.org/”WINE/a platform that lets Linux and Mac users run Windows apps semi-natively, is giving away free licenses for all their products today. That’s pretty great news for anyone who’s tried to run Microsoft Office, higher-end games, or any other Windows app through WINE and found out through later Google-ing that a CrossOver product was required. The license is good for one free app, normally $40 or so, and while CrossOver products can’t run every Windows product, they might help those trying to make the Linux (or Mac) switch. The deal is good for today only, and CodeWeavers’ site appears slammed this morning, so keep checking backmdash;unless you think another one of the CodeWeavers CEO’s a href=”http://lameduck.codeweavers.com/”Lame Duck goals/a will be hit, like it did with gas prices in Minneapolis-St. Paul recently. emUpdate: CodeWeavers has a a href=”http://down.codeweavers.com/”temporary license/download page/a posted while their servers are down./em/p div class=”related”a href=”http://lameduck.codeweavers.com/free/”CrossOver Free Licenses/a [CodeWeavers via a href="http://www.downloadsquad.com/2008/10/28/download-crossover-for-free-today-run-windows-apps-on-mac-linu/"Download Squad/a]/div br style=”clear: both;”/
