Dell Mini 9 gets built-in AT&T 3G option 25 November 2008 at 2:30 pm by admin

It’s never been much of a secret that the Dell Mini 9 has been 3G-ready from day one, and Vodafone customers have been able to get a 3G-equipped model direct from the carrier for a little while now, but it looks like folks in the US can now finally get in on the mobile broadband action as well, with a built-in 3G option now configurable on Dell’s site. Unfortunately, anyone that already took the plunge on a Mini 9 is out of luck, as the $125 upgrade is only available new orders (and only available on Windows XP-equipped models). If that doesn’t preclude you, however, you can also expect to get a $120 rebate if you’re willing to sign a two-year contract for AT&T’s DataConnect service, although it looks like you’ll also have to put up with a delay in your ship date at the moment.

+ G1 and BlackBerry Bold get the Colorware treatment, finally feel at home with your bippies and lightsticks By admin 25 November 2008 at 2:01 pm and have No Comments

As you probably learned in grammar school, there’s a time in every gadget’s life when it gets the Colorware treatment — and for the G1 and the Bold, the time is now. It’ll run you $150 to dress up your current T-Mobile handset, or the company will ship you a brand new one $725. Prices for the BlackBerry Bold run $139 and $674 for the makeover and the whole phone, respectively. Sure, that’s a pretty pile of change, but if you’d spent your formative years in the East Coast rave scene you’d know just how coveted and stylish a pink, blue and orange G1 really is. If the BlackBerry is more your speed, make sure you check out that sexy number after the break.

[Thanks, Ken]

+ Fuze rears its glossy head in some AT&T stores By admin 10 November 2008 at 4:25 pm and have No Comments

Can’t be long now, right? First we had dummies, but these are the real deal, ladies and gentlemen — a little over five ounces of HSDPA, VGA, TouchFLO 3D, QWERTY, and likely a bunch more letters and numbers we’re not recalling at the moment. Retail Fuzes are trickling into stores as we speak, though they’re apparently going under lock and key; as far as we can tell, none will be sold until AT&T drops the green flag. In the meantime, Sprint, pimp that Touch Pro of yours as hard as you can, because we’re afraid your exclusivity is about to end.

+ New SNES portable is heavy on the SNES, light on the portable By admin 10 November 2008 at 3:53 pm and have No Comments

Filed under:

The SNES has certainly proven to be one of the most popular consoles to get the portable treatment among those go-getter console modders out there, and it looks like it’s not showing any signs of losing that status, with this so-called SNEP (Super Nintendo Entertainment Portable) only the latest to pop up on our radar. As you can see above, this one is a tad less portable than some other handheld SNES mods we’ve seen (it also apparently needs to be plugged in), but it does at least do better job than most at staying true to the SNES’s (or, more accurately, the Super Famicom’s) instantly-recognizable appearance. There’s no plans available for building your own, unfortunately, but you can check it out in action in the video after the break.

+ Sony Ericsson’s X1A surfaces in Best Buy’s inventory By admin 10 November 2008 at 3:21 pm and have No Comments

Filed under:

It looks like the long, slow road to a domestic street date for the XPERIA X1 could be coming to an end with the phone’s recent entry into the inventory system over at Best Buy. Of course, we’re taking all of this with the proverbial grain of salt, but looks like the X1A (as it’s known in North America) might actually hit the shelves on December 7 of this year, with a retail price of $799.99. There is no word on a possible contract price yet, and with all of the other options out there (Touch Pro and G1 come to mind) SE might have a tough time selling this one to consumers whenever it does see the light of day. We’ll have to wait and see.

Microsoft employees can’t catch a break in China. Photographed above is a company shuttle equipped with a workstation per person, meaning they’ve got to get down to business just seconds after leaving their homes. So much for listening to your iPod and zoning out before work.

+ Possible Psystar Mac laptop clone in the works By admin 29 October 2008 at 2:52 pm and have No Comments

It looks like Psystar really hasn’t been hit by either the economic downturn or the lawsuits Apple has brought against it regarding those “OS X-capable” machines. Adding insult to yesterday’s injury — the announcement of desktops with built-in Blu-ray and NVIDIA’s GeForce 9800GT– it also looks like the company is actively developing a Mac laptop clone, according to an email obtained by AppleInsider. A Psystar spokesperson claims that, “Although there is no mobile open computer at the moment, I can tell you that it is something that is in development,” and adds “No release day or price has been set for any potential mobile product line. However I can assure you that at release it will be very competitively priced.” Well then — assuming the quality of the laptops will be comparable to those desktops — we can hardly wait.

+ T-Mobile G1 now available By admin 22 October 2008 at 1:03 am and have No Comments

Now that T-Mobile’s systematic discrimination against non-T-Mobile customers (how dare they?) has come to an end, we can all exhale, pull out our credit cards and get to maxin’ out the plastic. That’s right — the Android-powered G1 is now available for sale from T-Mob’s website to all comers, though we’re only seeing the black and bronze models listed at the moment and both are tagged with an ominous “extremely limited availability” label which tells us they probably won’t be there long. $179.99’s the price on two-year contract, and if they do sell out online, don’t sweat it just yet — sweep your local stores today.

[Thanks, Elisha]
