Mmm, the Archos 7. Seven full inches of touchscreen loveliness, just waiting to be caressed as you slide over your favorite artists one by one. Poor attempts at seduction aside, this magnificent piece of PMP has been spotted in the wild over at ArchosLounge, and the lucky soul who managed to acquire it even took the time to spill his impressions… in French. From what we could gather via the wonders of Google Translator, the Archos 7 wasn’t actually a surefire upgrade for those with the 5, particularly not at the listed price. Still, the unit brought a lot of smiles to the face of the owner, and we’re pretty sure it’ll do the same for you. Click the read link for a few more looks.

Well, what do you know? That Samsung YP-P3, which was rumored back in May, is more than just a figment of someone’s vivid imagination. Thanks to the wonderful FCC, we now know that Sammy is pressing for approval to release its next-generation PMP here in the States, though that’s absolutely all that we know right now. There’s no attached user manual, no splendid internal / external photos and no other juicy details to pore over. But let’s focus on the positive, shall we? The P3 is for real, and it’s coming soon.

To say that we’ve been underwhelmed by Pasen’s offerings thus far would be like calling the Meizu M8 slightly delayed, but supposedly we’re in for a pleasant surprise when next we meet a player from the company. The brand has been bought out by Italian Kiwii LTD and is pledging that those awful interfaces and stolen icons are things of the past. The proof will be in the REI-16 PMP, pictured above serving as a precarious looking wheel chock. It should make for a better media player, and while details are few it’s said to offer a “gorgeous” 3-inch touchscreen, “sexy” user interface, and support “tons” of audio and video formats (including ogg). An integrated FM transmitter will pipe tunes to your car, plus there’s video output for your TV and even emulation for 8-bit console games. It certainly sounds promising, but we’ll have wait for the full specs and some hands-on impressions before we can call Pasen reborn or just rebranded.

So far it doesn’t look like
Teclast’s OEM is trying to fool anyone with their new as-yet-unbranded media player, which is sort of disappointing — we know how much you love a good
KIRF. Aside from the uncommon (and theoretically stunning) 3.5-inch OLED widescreen display, this seems to be a pretty benign device. Features include capacitive touch controls, support for CMMB and DVB-T broadcasts, and if their past products are any indication you can probably expect output to TV or FM transmitter. You can expect this to ship in China under the Teclast flag eventually, but at the moment we’ve got no name, no price, no storage capacity, no release date — just the above facts and one lonely picture to keep you warm on those long winter nights ahead.

Samsung has been pretty tight-lipped about the inevitable successor to its popular
P2 (or YP-P2) PMP, but the company has taken the wraps off of it in a big way today, with it not only announcing its new P3 handheld, but letting a few sites actually get their hands on it. As rumored
way back in May, the device’s touchscreen gets a haptic upgrade, but the size and resolution stay the same at 3-inches and 480 x 272. Otherwise, you can expect capacities ranging from 4GB to 32GB, built-in Bluetooth with A2DP support, an FM tuner, a mono speaker, support for all the usual audio and video formats and, of particular note, an all new interface complete with customizable widgets. No word on a price or launch date just yet, but Samsung will apparently have more to say about that when it gets even more official about the device at CES in January. Until then, you can hit up the links below for some more pics, including an ample supply of comparison shots.

Growing tired of distributing the Meizu M6 and M3 (and growing even more tired of waiting on the M8), Dane-Elec has decided to strike up on its own and offer up a smattering of portable media players. Up first is the above pictured Music mediatouch, a 4GB / 8GB PMP with a 4.3-inch 480 x 272 resolution display, FM tuner / transmitter, microSDHC slot and USB connectivity. On deck is the reasonably attractive Music pix, which touts a 2.9-inch 400 x 240 resolution display, a 1.3-megapixel camera and your choice of 2/4/8GB of storage space. The bright green Music touch gets miniaturized to the tune of a 2.4-inch display, while the ultra-tiny Music is a simple USB thumb drive-styled DAP with either 1GB or 2GB of space. There’s no word on a release date for any of the aforesaid wares, but we wouldn’t bank on ‘em coming to the US, anyway.

Fans of iriver’s PMPs should be happy to hear that it’s cutting prices on three of them for the holiday shopping season. The E100 and tiny Lplayer’s prices will be $69.99 for 4GB models and $99.99 for the 8GB ones — a drop of $40. The priciest of the three, the SPINN, will see its tag drop to $189.99 for the 4GB and $229.99 for the 8GB (they normally fetch $249.99 and $279.99 respectively), though that still seems fairly expensive given its storage capacity. The price drops are in effect starting November 1st (AKA today).

Robot builder Matt Denton apparently first built a one-off Hexapod robot for himself some time ago, but he’s now taken things one big step further and is offering a kit of a similar bot to the general public through Micromagic Systems. In addition to being excessively creepy (just check out the video after the break), the MSR-101 Hexapod also looks to be relatively simple to get going straight out of the box, with it boasting a built-in HexEngine with plenty of pre-loaded settings, and built-in PS2 controller suppport, which’ll let you parade your creation about without having to mess around with it too much beforehand. Of course, there’s also plenty of room for more experienced robot builders to get their hands dirty, and Micromagic is more than happy to sell you a whole slew of optional add-ons for the kit. Those just looking to get started, however, can simply grab the base kit in their choice of black, red, or silver for an entirely reasonable €105, or roughly $168 — just don’t blame us if you never get a good night’s sleep again.
[Thanks, David]

Look, we’re pretty calloused when it comes to gadgets around here, but there’s just no denying that Reigncom’s (parent company to iriver) latest gizmo warmed our hearts at first sight. The freshly-revealed iriver NV mini is essentially a pared down version of the NV Life that hit in March and includes a 3.5-inch touchscreen (320 x 240 resolution), 4GB of internal capacity, a built-in battery good for 2.5-hours, Gini mapping software, a flash card slot for adding up to 8GB of storage and fairly robust multimedia player to boot. Expect it to bring smiles to many South Koreans very soon for ?188,000 ($133).

Samsung’s all up in Sony’s OLED space this morning at the FPD International 2008 show. They started by trotting out that 40-inch OLED TV again, with a Full HD resolution, 8.9-mm depth, and contrast ratio so high they just call it 1,000,000:1. Then they upped the ante while dialing down the dimensions to a 4-inch, ultra-thin 0.05-mm OLED (pictured above) with 480 x 272 pixel resolution, 100,000:1 contrast, 200cd/m2 brightness — so thin that it was displayed flapping in the wind. Take that Sony and your 0.3-mm OLED chubster. Sammy then reached deep into its bag of tricks with a transparent AMOLED display (first hinted at around these parts in early 2006) with an appropriately clad model presumably meant to invoke your pubescent fantasies of x-ray vision. Or maybe that’s just us. Click through to see what we mean.
