e-Volve Gadget Shoulder Holster: the ultimate man purse 18 November 2008 at 12:12 am by admin

Let’s get one thing straight right from the get-go: the e-Volve Gadget Shoulder Holster could definitely be considered the ultimate woman purse too, but that would first require you to actually find a female who would agree to said statement with a straight face. Following in the oh-so-daring footsteps of the nearly legendary Remote Wrangler is this piece: a mishmash that’s half C.O.P.S., half Brenthaven and 100% gnarly. Aside from providing the perfect cover for carrying your essentials underneath a suit, it offers up plenty of space for a smartphone, a backup mobile, a writing utensil, a few earbuds and, if positioned correctly, a Chrome 45. That’s a lot of badassery for just $69.95.

+ Roomba 530 Wall-E edition proves even robots are corrupted by money By admin 10 November 2008 at 4:11 am and have No Comments

It’s 2008 and we’ve finally achieved the ultimate goal of modern robotics. No, not singularity… better: a cross-promotional marketing deal between the world’s leading robots. Meet the Wall-E edition of iRobot’s Roomba 530. The special edition Roomba is just like the original 530 only with the addition of that magnificent sticker for a extra ¥5,000 (about $50) premium. 400 units of the limited run vacuumbots are scheduled to go on sale in Japan for ¥,84,500 (tax inclusive) starting November 20th. Tsk tsk, what’s Eve going to say?

+ Comprehensive Intel Health Guide seeks to provide in-home health monitoring By admin 10 November 2008 at 3:53 am and have No Comments

In-home medical monitoring systems are far from new, but everyone takes notice when a firm like Intel formally announces that it’s diving in headfirst. According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, Intel is gearing up to launch a series of trials with health-care organizations in order to “show whether the new tools bring improved results in treating conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.” More specifically, the Intel Health Guide — which includes a “simplified computer and software system that are designed to help elderly people and other patients monitor and manage their conditions at home” — will connect to medical equipment and then transmit that information with specified individuals (namely health professionals) over the ‘net. Admittedly, the initiative is far from being implemented in non-trial form, but it should be good to go by the time you start forgetting things and kvetching about the taste of your tap water.

+ Question of the Day: Do You Prefer Self-Checkout Lines? [Question Of The Day] By admin 13 October 2008 at 5:00 pm and have No Comments

For an impatient geek there is nothing…NOTHING more annoying than standing behind someone in a grocery store that has the audacity to write a check in the 21st century. That is why I head for the self-checkout lines. Generally, only those brave enough to tackle the machine and handle the pressure of nerds staring them down choose this option (athough I have seen people use checks in self-checkout—the ultimate horror). Even when I have quite a few purchases, I would rather scan it myself and avoid any unnecessary human interaction. But what about you? Do you prefer self-checkout over manned registers?

+ Which of the EIGHT Versions of the Iron Man DVD Should You Buy? [Iron Man] By admin 30 September 2008 at 8:00 pm and have No Comments

Okay, so you don’t have a Blu-ray player and you’re not getting a new Dell. That still leaves you with eight—EIGHT—different versions of Iron Man to choose from, with everyone from Walmart to Borders hawking their own exclusive kit. Best Buy’s might the most exquisitely fanboy fapworthy, encasing with the flick and a custom lithograth, plus a Mark III mini-bust made by Sideshow Collectibles. Here’s a guide to the rest, which we’ve placed in order of awesomeness, if you need some help deciding.

Target also goes the Iron Man trophy head route, though it just has the Ultimate 2-Disc Edition, in both DVD and Blu flavors, inside.

FYE and Suncoast deliver the Ultimate 2-Disc Edition in a superclassy steelbook case that I really, really like.

Walmart waltzes in with not one, but two exclusives, though only the first one matters to you: Ultimate 2-Disc edition with an exclusive Nick Fury comic. The other packs the first ep of the Iron Man animated series in with the single disc edition of the movie.

Costco’s gift set throws in a bobblehead of each Iron Man suit from the movie. Feh for bobbleheads.

Borders rolls with a collectible book loaded with sketches and the top 24 Iron Man comic covers.

Circuit City gives you access to some exclusive Marvel Digital comics, snore.

Kmart and Sears are knocking five bucks off the Ultimate Edition if you buy $25 in Craftsman tools. I’m…not really sure what’s going on there either.

Which version are you going to pluck from this overloaded orgy of marketing? This “exclusive” crap—and most of it is crap—has really gotten out of hand. Update Best Buy is just selling the bust, the DVDs aren’t in it, as some of you guys pointed out.

On September 30th, Paramount Home Entertainment will release the critically acclaimed box office smash IRON MAN: 2-DISC ULTIMATE EDITION on DVD and Blu-ray!

With this release comes EIGHT fantastic retail exclusives! Below, you will find details and article work on these eight exciting, exclusive offers!

Here are the details for these Eight Exciting Retail Exclusives:

**Circuit City - Access to exclusive Marvel Digital Comics featuring the artwork of Adi Granov.

**Best Buy - Custom Lithograph created by Marvel artist Gerald Parel.

**Target - Target Deluxe Edition includes exclusive Mark III mask packaging. Available on both the Ultimate 2-Disc Edition and 2-Disc Blu-ray.

**Costco - Giftset includes the Ultimate 2 Disc Edition DVD and 3 Iron Man Bobbleheads, with all 3 Iron Man suits from the film. Giftset includes the “Battle Damaged Mark II”, available exclusively in this giftset at Costco.

**Walmart - Two exclusive SKUs. Ultimate 2 Disc Edition packed with an exclusive comic book chronicling the Nick Fury story. The single disc giftset is packed with the 1st episode of the new Iron Man animated series.

**Kmart & Sears - Save $5 on the Ultimate 2 Disc edition with any $25 Craftsman purchase.

**Trans World - FYE and Suncoast Exclusive Steelbook Package available on the Ultimate 2- disc Edition. (pictured above, left)

**Borders - On pack collectible book featuring original sketches by Bob Layton and the top 24 comic cover of Iron Man.

+ Breakthrough in MIT’s RealNose project could mean artificial noses for all - yay By admin 30 September 2008 at 4:47 pm and have No Comments

Filed under:

The quest for the ultimate artificial nose is still underway, and thanks to a major breakthrough by the folks over at MIT, it might be sooner than later that we’re all unwrapping stylish sniffers under the Christmas tree. More importantly, the fruits of MIT’s RealNose project could replace drug and explosive-sniffing dogs as well as detect certain medical conditions via the odors emitted. Up to now, the tricky part of studying the sense of smell has been in isolating proteins (olfactory receptors) to get a good look at how they work. But in this latest development, researchers are now able to produce specific receptors using wheat germ. Engineered mammalian cells can be used to the same effect. What makes this so great is, while the human nose is relatively limited in what it can detect, this discovery could unlock the potential to detect an almost infinite range of odors. G.I. Joe with “action nose” here we come.

Available only in the Land of the Rising Sun, this set includes a 7-disc collection, which can be stored inside a 2-foot model of the Nebuchadnezzar. + Tinker Game is the First Good Windows Vista Ultimate Extra [Windows Ultimate] By admin 24 September 2008 at 5:40 pm and have No Comments

Tinker, a game available right now for free through the Windows Vista Ultimate Extras program, is probably the first Ultimate extra that people actually like. The previous couple—Sound Schemes and DreamScene moving wallpapers—were nice, but hardly worth the extra money people paid for the premium version of Vista. Download the 60-level obstacle course game right now from your automatic Windows Update. Here’s hoping there are more Extras coming before Windows 7 hits.
